The Year I was Grounded

by William New

The central character in The Year I was grounded likes baseball, crunching carrots, playing the trumpet in the school band and anything to do with water. Not quite telling the truth earns: "You're grounded!" And then things change. Over the year that follows the world's truth turn out to be more fascinating than ever imagined, and "grounding" takes a different form as he begins to grow up. Some discoveries are comic, some triumphant, some upsetting, some sad. And things are puzzling. Consisting of work puzzles, a series of poems and a diary, the book will engage young readers and young-at-hear adult alike.

Reviews

“ While its brevity and visual appeal make The Year I Was Grounded a good choice for reluctant or struggling readers, the subject matter and language are by no means in the "light reading" category. This is capital L Literature, make no mistake! Throughout the book's many snippets and styles, it is William New's poetry, in particular, that consistently shines with the kind of sparkle that sends a happy tingle across readers' tongues while they mouth the perfectly weighted words.”—Tara Williston, CM Magazine
