Newly released Tradewind’s title The Freezies is off to a great start, having received a glowing review from Kirkus Reviews.
Written by Farrukh Dhondy, the book follows Suleikha, Leo and Kai, a group of 12-year-olds known as the Freezies, as they befriend the intriguing and larger-than-life Mr Christaki, a traveller who camps with his converted school bus on their village green. The Freezies eventually learn that Mr Christaki is a Syrian refugee and, together, the group of kids develop a scheme to prevent his deportation.
As the reviewer notes, “Young activists set an example for their community in this accessible adventure that conveys both humor and pathos” in this compassionate tale.
