We are proud to announce that illustrator Laura James is being celebrated with a solo exhibition at the Central branch, of the Brooklyn Public Library. Titled to match the name of James’ newly released children’s tale, My Mother Was a Nanny, this exhibition features select artworks from the artist’s new book.
You will undoubtedly recognize Laura’s illustrators from Tradewind’s titles Anna Carries Water and Boonoonoonous Hair, written by Olive Senior. This new title is especially close to James’ heart as her mother was a domestic worker. This book therefore acts, as the Brooklyn Public Library notes, as “a homecoming of sorts, and a way of uplifting and honoring her mother, and the many women of Brooklyn who continue to hold families together through their service as nannies and domestic caregivers.”
The exhibition will be on display until January 28, 2024. Click here to learn more about the show and the location.
