A poignant and poetic SOS Water receives further praise for both its beauty and important environmental message.
Written and illustrated by Yayo, this story follows Lalo and Rosa as they look for a safe and clean place for Rosa to live. However, in our modern world this proves to be a difficult task as we see from the impacts of plastic waste on Rosa’s natural home, the water, throughout the book. Calling on the key purpose of this story, review Linda Ludke notes that, “SOS Water draws needed attention to the far-reaching environmental impacts of single-use plastic bottles”. She also praises this text for, “pairing understated text with satiric line drawings, [SOS Water] highlights the serious ecological and societal harm caused by single-use containers . . . [and] is a crystal-clear clarion call to action.”
